Magnolia Kobus, or Japanese Tree Magnolias, have naturalized and been incorporated into a uniquely beautiful woodland landscape in the heart of West Newbury. Join ECTA Director Deb Hamilton on an leisurely hour's walk that will begin in the front yard at 227 Middle Street, and will continue through the magnolia allee', across the headwaters of Kelly Brook and onto the Cawley Parcel, a 19 acre Greenbelt owned property with a new 3 acre link out to Indian Hill Street. In addition to blooming magnolias, we should also see other early spring ephemerals--trout lilies, violets, bluets, skunk cabbage, anemones--as well as 8 varieties of ferns, the early blooming spring bulbs and shrubs in the Hamiltons' gardens. Birders may be treated to turkeys, hawks, owls, and other resident and migrating songbirds. Long pants and covered shoes are recommended.
Park on the street at 227 Middle Street, which is between Stewart Street and Indian Hill Street. Look for a cedar-shingled mailbox. Call Deb Hamilton for more info, 978-270-9129
