Virtual Race 3:  Merrimac River Run, West Newbury segment

Length: 3.2 Miles

Parking:  Proceeding west on Route 113 from Newburyport turn on Coffin St., just past the Page School and the Mill Pond Recreational Area, continue to river, turn right on River Road and park at the end. 

Course:  Follow the green trail just by the parking area east along the river, turn right on the blue trail and head uphill.  When you enter the “Hayfield” bear right back into the woods and continue following the blue trail (past 2 intersections with the orange trail), then turn left and up hill again on the red trail.  Up the hill to the water tank, bending clockwise around the tank then to the fence for the athletic fields, along the fence to the baseball backstop, past it and to the green trail downhill, following the green trail right at the septic tank field, then right on the blue trail, past the red and orange trails until the sign for the yellow trail which you follow into the hayfield, which you run around counterclockwise to where you just emerged off the yellow trail, retrace your steps to the blue trail, take a hard right and follow the blue trail downhill, across the NW edge of the hayfield and continuing down to the green trail where you head west to the finish.

Race Overview:

The Essex County Trails Association (ECTA) is pleased to announce its first ever virtual training trail running competition using the free  app!  The competition is free and is open to any runner, although only ECTA members will be eligible for a prize.  There will be prizes for each mens and womens age group winners. Age groups are: under 25, 25-50, over 50.   

The  virtual competition will begin May 1, 2016 and last until August 31, 2016. Prizes will be awarded at the ECTA Run for the Trails race on September 17, 2016.  Runners can compete as often as they choose, with their times measured by any GPS tracking device and uploaded to Strava and winners will be determined by their segment ranking as reported by Strava.
